Short event description
You are invited to share a special night experiencing the essence of Bulgarian heritage: folk dancing, memorable songs, and beautiful folk music. We will spirit you away to a mystical world of traditions and joyous memories of old Europe, familiar to some but enchanting to all.
Hopa Trop Children’s Folk Ensemble of Seattle, Tzvetanka and Ivan Varimezovi of Los Angeles, and Seattle’s Dunava Choir will present Bulgaria’s unique folklore.

Bio of artist(s) or organization
Hopа Trop is a local folk ensemble for children, dedicated to the study and performance of traditional folk dances, songs, and customs from all regions of Bulgaria. The group is founded and lead by Dani Makedonska, lifelong choreographer of Bulgarian folk dancing art.

Tzvetanka and Ivan Varimezovi are professional master musicians from Bulgaria. Tzvetanka has added her outstanding voice to
several famous Bulgarian choirs, and currently teaches music and singing in Los Angeles. Ivan represents a generation of a Bulgarian musical legacy, playing and teaching gaida and tupan, as well as directing traditional bitov and wedding bands.

Dunava is a Seattle-based women’s vocal ensemble specializing in the a cappella folk music of the Balkans. Founded in 2005, Dunava is composed of singers from diverse musical backgrounds who all share a passion for the distinct and beautiful harmonies of Eastern Europe.
