Hopa Trop – History and More
In Bulgaria, folklore and dancing are integral parts of life. From generation to generation, through dance we express our cultural genius, and celebrate our heritage with love and respect. Folk dancing represents the essence of Bulgarian history, culture, and life.
Dani Makedonska, Master Choreographer of Bulgarian Dance, formed Folk Ensemble in 2013 in the Bulgarian community in Seattle

- It started as Hopa Trop Children’s Folk Dance ensemble – a program consisting of weekly classes of singing, dancing, and educating children ages 5 to 14. The goal of this program is to educate children about Bulgarian culture: language, geography, customs, musical instruments, songs, dances, folklore, and games. Along with having fun with their peers and teacher, children will also develop the ability to work and perform together both in the studio and on stage.
- In addition to the Children’s Ensemble, and due to the increased interest, in 2017 we opened our doors to dancers age 15 and over. In this weekly class we dance and perform choreographed dances from all folklore regions in Bulgaria.
Rehearsals are every Sunday from 3:00 PM till 6:30 PM. For more details see our Class Schedule .

Vision
Our Vision:
Traditional dance is an excellent medium for appreciating other folk arts such as music, song, storytelling, embroidery, weaving and other handcrafts. We synchronize them with the music, feel the stories in the songs’ lyrics again and again, and re-enact history in our dancing steps. Dancing is an expression of the inspirational Bulgarian character — free and beautiful, strong and enduring, intense and relaxed, agile and dexterous, wise and humorous, desirous and joyful.
Our Mission:
Preserving and popularizing Bulgarian culture and traditions through the enchantment of dancing and singing.
Our Values:
Loyalty. Integrity. Respect. Learning. Discipline. Partnership
